Fybertech: Ultimate Battle

So what is going on?

Here at Fybertech, we have decided fight for the next few months. Or to run a tournament of sorts in which members of Fybertech can participate in. I’m not sure.

Sounds kinda cool... what do we do?
Members are asked to create their OWN character based on whatever. BUT these must mesh with the Fybertech universe. These characters will then be faced off against other member-created characters in a one-on-one tournament until one is named the final victor. If you feel the need to contest this there will be a vote.

Sweet! Are there any rules I need to follow?
A few. But hopefully they won't be too difficult to follow for you slowbies:

CHARACTER BUILDING:
1) Your character can be based after anything as long as it makes sense or doesn’t break certain laws. They should be Fybertechers, or something similar. But it doesn’t mean you’ll be put into continuity.

2) Your character, while it is possible (but not mandatory) to have references to other existing characters (Fyber, Prof, for example) can NOT be a remake of an already existing character either in the universes in which they reside or ANY other series (putting Link in a brown tunic and calling him by another name).

3) Your character can be an existing character you made, for example, you made for a fan fiction.

CHARACTER SUBMITTING:
1) Each member can submit only one character as an individual. Teams of up to three members can work on creating one character. For whatever reason. Like Altzan and Wiz Kid working on one.
NOTE: If you have another good character, or I just like you, you can submit and maybe play as him/her/it. Secondary characters will be subject to drops in event of Odd number of applicants.

2) Submissions should be sent to me via PM, this is for private reasons. OR email: clickoutmets@gmail.com

3) We will start accepting submissions whenever I want to start getting’ em. Or now. But! After X amount of time no more. From there, the official tournament will begin.

Okay, this all sounds doable. But what happens if someone creates a character with godlike powers?
No worries- because we will fucking kill them. After that, we will also be discussing other options for Fybertech members who wish to contribute to the event but don't wish to directly compete.

When it comes to a contest dealing with original characters, there always lies the risk of a creator creating a character that refuses to die, to play fair, and in general- just isn't fun.

Character Stats:
In this contest- we are nipping this in the balls: Introducing the Character Stats. This will works fairly simply.

1. The character stats include eight vital stats. Each of these stats rank between 1 to 8 points each, 1 being weak (or in some cases, "normal") and 8 being massively powerful. The stats are as follows:
Strength - Pretty much self-explanatory; how much a character can lift/press under optimal conditions.
Agility/ Speed - Although these are two separate ideas, for the sake of convenience, we're smashing them into one. Essentially, how fast a character can move and/or how flexible they can be. This can come into play especially in defensive situations.
Stamina - How long a character can continue a certain activity (fighting, running, dancing the salsa, b8ting, etc.) before tiring out.
Durability - We're using this simply for a lack of a better or more immediate term. Essentially how much damage and/ or injury a character can take before submission/ going unconscious and/or dying. DPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!
IQ / Strategy - How bright the character is. Do they wander into a fray and mindlessly swing their sword or come in with a battle plan in mind.
Energy Projection - An optional chart mostly but can still come in quite handy. Essentially entails how powerful a magical attack and/or energy-based attack (i.e. a Zora's electrical field, or Borz’s Thor, for example) can be. NOTE: One point means that they have no magical or energy based attack/ moves but can add points. Winners cannot add points if they start with 0 Energy Projection.
Fighting - How experienced the character is in an actual fight and how easily they can adapt to a given situation.
Determination- Again, self-explanatory, how committed they are to winning and/or how cowardly they are and are willing to forfeit a match.

2. Each character when they begin will be given 32 points to spread across the eight categories. The creator can choose any way they wish to distribute these points, but keep in mind a few points:
A. If you wish, you can max out a character in one stat, but that will leave it lacking in other areas.
B. You can also make a character that is completely down the middle with four points apiece, but keep in mind that will make the character a fairly average player with no advantages over opponents.

3. When submitting the character, we do NOT ask to create your own chart, just please include the number of points per category you wish to give the character in the deviation's description and we'll build the chart for you. Or not.

4. We will be checking the numbers and in the case a character has too many points, we will shave off the excess points from their stats at random (we may choose any category). In the case there are too few, we will again add points at random. In other words, make sure you do your math right.

5. As matches are won, the winners will be awarded additional points to add to their characters.

6. If asked enough, we may break down the stats even further (for example, how powerful is four point in durability, or six points in strength, etc.), but as it is, we wish to keep it relatively open to decide.

Character Descriptions:
This is imperative to a successful character. In the deviation description, along with the character stats, we implore the creators to create a detailed mythos for their character. Make them feel like an actual character and not just some schmoe with a sword. A few suggestions include:
1. What is their reason to be fighting (the actual story behind the tournament will be revealed before the beginning to the tournament)? Are they fighting for a loved one? Are they thrill seekers? Maniacs?
2. Just who is your character? Are they a peasant? A forlorn knight? A thief?
3. Where do they hail from? Are they from a specific kingdom or area? Who are their relatives, anyone of importance?
4. What are some quirks about the character? Any specific loves or fears? Bizarre quirks?

More to Come…
In the following posts, we will be putting up a few sample characters (or not) to show you as an example of how we would like you to set up your character submissions. Also keep watch for the third update, where we will be discussing the tournament procedures, combat areas, AND how members that are not interested in directly fighting can get involved with the festivities.

NOTE: Don't post here until I give the okay, stick to Borz's topic.

So far we have discussed the areas of character creation and submission into the Ultimate Battle. Now it is time to lay out just how the game is going to be played. Of course, some small elements change in the course of time, but this is essentially the main plan.

The Timetable:
The Timetable is our fancy way of way of saying "event schedule." Ideally, we plan to have each match to be character versus character. To do this, in the case of an odd number of characters, I will include a character or characters to fill the gap. And if needed, we may have a "FFA lol" in which a number of characters will go into combat against each other all at once.

We plan to have between a certain number of matches depending on number of entries.  The battle (see the section below titled "Deciding a winner") should last a few days, and the victor being announced the following at the end of course. So for example say your character goes into battle on a Monday. The battle will last until Thursday, and the winner will be announced on Monday. The reason for this span of time is explained in the section titled "The Chroniclers."

When a match begins, a new Cheat Sheet (I MADE IT UP!) will be added to the Fybertech gallery depicting both characters, their character stats, as well as a short bio of each character and eventually the opponents they successfully defeated.

Characters will be chosen at random. The creators of the characters to fight will be notified within 48 hours of the event.

Once every character has battled through one round, the winners of the first round's matches will be again named at random and so on until an ultimate champion will be named.

Deciding the Battle:
Because these are fictional characters and we really don't have the funds to fly every single member of the Fybertech site to one certain location and have them beat each other up with nerf bats and plywood to decide the winner, the decision will be made as it was in the days of the gladiator: the decision of the masses.

During the course of the match, members are allowed to post in the topic how they believe a battle will be waged and who the victor would be. Keep in mind however this is NOT an official vote, but rather a way to discuss the battle possibilities. Before the beginning of the tournament, we may also be opening a separate chat room for open discussion of the matches. Or keep it in the pants main room. This however, will not be a role-playing chat room. If anything, a member can act as the character's "manager" and try to hype up their character's chances.

Voting will be done via PM submitted to me. Points per vote depend of the voter. The breakdown is as follows:
Fybertech members: 2 points
Fybertech members participating: 2 points
Fybertech active members: 3 points
Chroniclers: Not allowed to vote except in the case of a tie. Unless they are participating.
Fybertech members in current battle: Not allowed to vote, as their votes would negate each other.

You may have noticed that, members participating given a smaller voting presence. This is simply to help curb any plotting certain players may have in hopes of eliminating other certain players.

The Chroniclers:
Chroniclers are involved within the tournament, although not directly playing within it. Their main role within the tournament, as their title suggests, is to chronicle the progress of the game, and the characters through the following methods:

1) Prose- writing out the transpirings of the battle in a prose fashion.
2) Visual- Either illustration, painting, or any type of visual medium.
3) Animation- although highly unexpected, a chronicler can also decide to display the battle through animated means.

To reach these means, the chronicler will be given the results of the matches and the decided winner. From there, they will be asked to construct the battle either in prose and/or illustration in time to coincide with the announcement of the winners.

After the end of the tournament, all the works of the chroniclers will be fashioned into   something cool to showcase.

To become a Chronicler, a member of Fybertech (playing or not) needs to submit a PM/Email and the reason(s) why they would like the position. If they have samples of their own work readily available, links to said work would be greatly appreciated. Some need not apply and will be hired on the spot.

Ideally, we would like to have 3-5 chroniclers, but if there is a large enough interest, we may consider adding more.

Matters of Life and Death:
Along with deciding the winner of a match, the voting procedures will also determine the ultimate fate of a character.

In a regular one-on-one match, whichever character achieves the majority of the vote (more than 50% percent) will be declared the winner. Also, the success the character has in defeating their opponent will also determine how many additional points they will be awarded to their character stats. Below is the breakdown:

50% - 79%: 1 stat point
80% - 89%: 2 stat points
90% - 100%: 3 stat points

The loser however will as well be affected by the outcome. Depending on the percentage of votes they receive will determine how final their defeat is. Below is the breakdown:

49% - 40%: Willingly admits defeat
39% - 30%: Incapacitated, forced to admit defeat
29% - 20%: Rendered Unconscious
19% - 10%: Severely injured
9% - 0%: Killed in battle.

In the case of a 50/50 draw, both players will be awarded one stat point and moved into the next round where they will have to face off in a three-way fight with two random opponents.

More to Come...
This is all a bit of information; so if there are any questions, feel free to ask. In the upcoming posts, we will be submitting a couple of sample characters to help showcase the proper ways to submit a character. We will also be slowly revealing more of the tournament, including battle arenas characters will be fighting, the story of the Ultimate Battle, and other sorts of promotional goodness.

Well, A mere voting system could not work out for this tournament simply because it is not just an art contest. This is a battle of a myriad of characters each with a style of their own, needing to be seen.

And so, Fybertech has assembled a way to play that hopefully will be easy enough for the creators to figure out and will also involve the other members of Fybertech, which are not playing in the tournament.

The playing field will work in two parts: the Battle Plan and Voice of the People

THE BATTLE PLAN
Those playing in the game will have much more fun... as they can possibly control the fate of their characters.

For example, let us say that a battle involving a character created by Fyber is going to transpire within a week. A PM will be sent out to Fyber, detailing to him that it is time for him and his character to prepare for said battle. Within a week, Fyber has to send to us a Battle Plan detailing a minimum of 5 moves, a max of 10 moves his character may use and send them back to me. He may choose to add how Fyber would react in certain situations. Here is how the move system works.

BASIC RULES
1. Each player will be given five turns or "Moves." Each suggested move will go into effect simultaneously with the opponents move.
2. Each move consists of combining two of the character stats together. For example, Strength and IQ, Fighting and Stamina, etc.
3. Each stat can be used only TWICE within the five moves. Further, a move cannot use the same stat twice (i.e. - Strength and Strength).
4. The power of the move is figured out by the sum of the two stats (For example, if a move combines a level 4 strength and a level 2 IQ, the overall power will be 6).
5. Of the five moves, three will be offensive moves and two will be defensive moves.
6. A successful offensive move is a move whose points are greater than the opponents move (offensive or defensive). The amount of damage placed upon the loser of the round is found by the difference of the two move's powers. (i.e. If Player 1's move was 9 points and Player 2's move was 7 points, Player 2 loses 2 points.)
8. A successful defensive move, like an offensive move is determined by if its point value is greater than the opponent's attack.
9. If a defensive move is successful, the difference between the two moves will be subtracted from the total point value of the opponents next turn.
10. If in the case two defensive moves are played at the same time, both moves are negated.
11. The winner is decided by whichever opponent loses the least amount of points during the fight. BUT, if the Chronicler decides not to follow the battle in this manner to write it out that is fine.
12. If in the case of a tie (each opponent loses the same amount of points), both opponents will progress onto the next round.
12. The points deducted by a successful offense move will not affect the stats of the player whom the points were deducted from.
13. Moves can vary from match to match and are not expected to be repeated unless a character decides to reuse them. That said, a character can use five entirely new moves in each match just so long as those moves comply with the rules above.

A few other things to mention. First, if we do not hear back from a creator within a week of sending out the initial PM of the upcoming battle, they automatically forfeit the match. If they can't for whatever reason prepare their character's battle plan within a week, please contact me within said time and I'll try to find a replacement competitor.

Second, although there is no particular way we need you to send your battle plan, please make sure at least with each move you detail whether the move is offensive or defensive, and what two stats you are using. Also in the case of offensive moves, please also include what stats you want your opponents to have affected if your offensive move is successful.

Third, and although it should go without saying, please make sure you character's moves roughly correspond to the stats used. For example, if you are using the character's strength and fighting stats, they shouldn't be hurling lightning bolts.

If you add additional PMs, such as a move's name or a description, even better although not required.

VOICE OF THE PEOPLE
Although the overall outcome may or may not be decided by the masses but instead the fighters themselves, it doesn't however mean they have no say in the matches. Much like the old gladiator fights; the masses can still decide the fate of the losing fighter.

First, Members of Fybertech are invited to send their opinions on the matches. These opinions should preferably be based mostly on the character's background, their fighting style, and appearance. DO NOT SAY WHICH CHARACTER YOU WANT TO WIN, but rather your opinion on each character.

Second, in the same topic, please rate on a scale of 10, one being around "hate," ten being "absolutely adore/am in total awe of," rate both competing characters.

These submissions will be open for the first four days after the match is announced. After the first four days, we will tally the ratings of the loser of the match and reduce them into a percentage score. From there, a character's approval will decide the character's fate as such:

1 - 20% - Killed in Battle
21% - 40% - Critically injured / Dismembered in Battle, will not return
41% - 60% - Seriously Injured in Battle, will not return
61% - 80% - Forfeits / Admits defeat in battle, may or may not return
81% - 100% - Forfeits / Admits defeat in battle, will be asked to return.

Returning losing competitors will be placed into a separate category where they will compete amongst one another until one is found the victor and will return to fight the remaining winners.

TELLING THE TALE
We are planning on having Chroniclers for the matches, members of Fybertech which would be given the task of either writing out these matches in prose form or depicting them in artwork. If you are possibly interested in this project, please contact us ASAP.

So that is how it is for now... and hopefully will be once the tournament starts. If there any problems, concerns or questions, contact us.

We hope to be seeing you in the tournament!
