Well, I just got Diamond lst night. I haven't had more than five minutes to play, but I chose the penguin as my starter and I think it's awesome. It might just top GSC in execution. Who else has it?
-
I got Pearl, Turtwig.
-
I've got neither...... nor can I afford either.... not sure i wanted eitherm but I am feeling that all too familiar pull of the pokemon now. Damn cravings.

Diamond, Turtwig.
I'm impressed so far, the elemental variety early on means you've got some interesting choices before you even find the first Gym Leader. Plus the whole global trade concept is a fascinating concept(wish I could exploit it sometimes, downside of living out in nowhereland).
-
I would have gotten Pearl for the EVA looking Ledgendary, but I promised my friend I'd get Diamond so we could play together.

:p here mine two Ds

What how do you get both. Lucky.

oh Shop

So is it still a pressing need to "Gotta catch em all!"? or has it subsided to more of a "Catch whatever you can, the rest are fine"
-
Well, for me it's a "catch whatever, you'll figure it out in a year or two like you did with Gen1/Gen2.
-
I got Diamond and Chimchar because that is a badass name and a fire monkey is too cool.
-
Gots me Diamond today and Puplip cause it's a pengy.
EDIT: I caught a Green Geodude on my way to the first gym.

I hate you so much. I have yet to see a shiny pokemon.

Well you see, the secret is... acualy I just got lucky
Nifty little site (http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/)
EDIT!!
Shouldn't your character be wanted by the poke-police or something, I mean seriously, you're leaving a trail of half-dead pokemon in your wake wherever you go, ESPECIALLY when you're leveling; most are burned, or paralysed, or poisoned, or whatever... I mean, seriously, you offer them NO care after beating the living hell out of them, you leave them wounded in the wild, to die.
-
Simple: Self-defense. They jumped you, you had to beat them back to save your own hide.
Anyway, Diamond Version, started with Chimchar as well. If there's anything I don't like, it's having to go second with an attack that doesn't even cut a quarter of the opponent's HP.
