Title: Rpg formats
Post by: Fyberopticyber on May 30, 2006, 05:03:31 pm
Let's come up with some RPG formats. That way when someone comes up with an RPG game we can suggest a format for the game. or we use the formats to create our own RPG games. If you have an idea for a format just post it.

We will adhere to one format, and that is the one with the dice.

I did mine with an alias thing on mIRC fychat.

/alias /dice { %rolled = $$1 | %dice = $$2 | %result = $rand($calc(%rolled * 1), $calc(%rolled * %dice)) | %output = | /say Results from %rolled $+ d $+ %dice $+ : %result }

i think that's it.

you just copy it and paste it into your mIRC chat box, and then press Enter.

After that, you type in /dice A B, where A is the number of dice you want to roll and B is the number of sides on your dice.

Its more then useful, its necassary.  Without dice rolls you can't play the RPG.

Actualy, you might be able to have a RPG without randomness, by just comparing stats, and maybe also having bonuses/penalties in a rock, paper, scissors fashion.

ROCK, PAPER, SCISSERS! why do that if you can roll a 20 sided dice! ???

maybe if you had been paying attention you would know that he was just mentioning a way to determine things WITHOUT dice.

Yes there are many creative ways to do this. Dice, R,P,S, and others.

Why would you do rock paper scissors if you got a 20-sided die? You wouldn't unless you DIDN'T. It's an ALTERNATIVE WAY. So don't twist his words, cyberboy.

Also, the main idea of what I was saying was to just use straight stats, but to have bonuses and penalties for certain items/abilities/spells when used against other items/abilities/spells. I was thniking these bonuses would have to be in a circular fashion like in rock, paper, scissors in order to prevent one from being supreme.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: I'm going to go ahead and remind you that this is a place to talk about RPing, and not one in which to have arguments. Okay? Okay? Alright. Okay.

AMNYWAY, yeah, Mdude's idea would work okay, but only for a unified skill/ability system. I can guarantee that since everybody has totally unique abilities, skills, and items, working bonuses and penalties in there would just take a long time and not do much for the game itself.

POSTODOBLE

I had a passing thought that maybe we could create one ability system that everyone would have to go by, but i think that's the way it was back at the labs. Except that this time it would be harder to do, probably wouldn't work, and everyone would hate it just as much. Hmm.

I also thought that we could force everyone to try to tack one of five classic elements (Fire, Water, Earth, Air, something else) on each of their abilities so that we could make a system, but that would be kind of restricting to some abilities, probably wouldn't work, and everyone would hate it just as much. Hmm.

In closing, dice is our savior and our current system works fine.
