OMNICORE
OMNICORE was the centralized "operating system" of Hazard Labs, both physically and in the fictional universe. As actual software, it was responsible for user-account management, private inter-user messaging, artificial currency storage and transfer, user rankings, user profiles, and image-based ID card generation, among other and internal tasks.
OMNICORE was written by FyberOptic, initially created for management of the website's donation-based online credit, then referred to as Ðibs. Previously this was handled through standard HTML-based pages, but the implementation of the software allowed for both easy modification of a user's amount, as well as the eventual implementation of user-to-user currency transfer. As a result of this, the software was steadily upgraded in capability, eventually capable of hosting the website's content itself.
It was generally referred to as the website's operating system not simply due to its fictional version, but also due to the majority of the software on the website being interconnected with it. This would include the comics and comments area, Millennimals, the OMNIDEX, news updates, the artwork section, and more. OMNICORE was designed with a modular interface, making it capable of being included in most any new project, resulting in fairly easy implementation of user account data and template use.
As mentioned, the software underwent numerous revisions over the many months it was in service, including a few security audits, since the software's size continued to increase as its capabilities did, many times by patching old code to work with new functionality. This resulted in a few major internal rewrites to improve security and performance. It's patchwork nature also lead to its eventual replacement on Fybertech, known as FyberNET there, with the majority rewritten from scratch to better suit the site's needs.
An extension of OMNICORE was "PHN-001 Dex", a chat bot representation of the fictional managerial robot on the Hazard Labship. Users in chat were able to request website information from him, from news, to OMNIDEX info, even the website status report. Dex was implemented after the move of Hazard Labs to a Linode, which allowed him to run full-time as background process on the server, and be tied directly into the OMNICORE database.
Having been a part of the now defunct Hazard Labs, OMNICORE is no longer in service.
