The term "hard-light hologram" is used to refer to a formation of light and/or energy to generate the representation of an object. As opposed to a soft-light hologram, a hard-light projection has a physical "presence", capable of interacting with or obstructing the movement of matter.

A HEAT unit is capable of producing this form of hologram.
