Fychan
Fychan is custom-written software to mimic the functionality of Futaba-based imageboards such as 4chan, except created primarily to keep only the imagery we deemed as worthwhile, and avoiding much of the mature and graphic content. One important difference is the lack of thread expiration, allowing imagery and conversation to be stored indefinately.
Sections under Fychan include:
- Random
- Random (Mature)
- Animals
- Technology
- FyDoodle
The mature area is only available by request, due to the nature of some of the content posted there. It's generally only composed of some nudity or things with mature content or language, and is protected from the general passer-by in order to retain the website's mostly family-oriented "rating".
FyDoodle is an Oekeki (mouse drawn art) based section, running the ubiquitious ShiPainter software.
Related but not directly associated with Fychan is 4get, an area of random images from the internet, put there via certain images linked in the chat. It was designed due to the unpredictable nature of images staying on 4chan for very long, so that others returning later could see what was talked about. Like Fychan, 4get stores images indefinately, but lacks the functionality of threads and comments. Fyborg contains the software necessary to capture the links from chat and add those images to the 4get area. As of 3:36am on October 2st, 2007, 4get contains 8,998 images totalling 1.8GB.
Fychan shouldn't be confused with the Fychan UserJS script for Opera, which was coincidently named the same thing when not thinking either would be particularly popular initially.
