Floppy Problems
« on: September 09, 2005, 10:00:42 pm »
This has been driving me nuts. First of all, I have a 2 MB floppy with a 1.5 MB file I want to put on it. Yet, It says the floppy can only hold 1.38MB, when it could hold more than that before. Help, anyone? (Also: is there a disk for the A:\ Drive that has more memory than 2 MB?)

Thanks for your hep.

Normal floppy drives can actually only hold about 1.4mb.  I believe Mac floppies can hold more, possibly towards 2mb, but I have no idear really.  There was a time when they sold 2.8mb floppy drives for PCs but they never seemed to catch on.

There's also something called an LS-120 drive which is similar to a floppy except it can hold about 120mb, but I'm betting you don't have one of those.

There's zip-disks too, which I think are still around, and come in various sizes.

If you really need to get this file onto floppies, you can use something like Winzip's span-disk option.  It lets you compress a file and break it up onto multiple disks, then you can combine it back together with Winzip on the other computer.

HOPE THAT HALPS~

OK, That was a failure. The other computer couldn't recognize the files OR get them off of the floppy. Says they're corrupted. ??? Any other ideas?

1. Get 7-Zip
2. Split the file into floppy sized bits   (yes, you can do this with 7-zip)
3. Copy files to other computer
4. Reconnect files
5. Play with a kitty

Wait... that last one was for me... never you mind it...

I think that it's 2 MB when unformatted, but you need to format it in order to use it, and it's only 1.38 MB when formatted...

If you wanted to know what I had to say, you could've checked the post title. Doesn't anyone change these things anymore?

Laser Disks are the Bomb.  Other than the fact that they're big enough to play frisbee with easily, all my laserdisks seem to give me a whole lot sharper video and sound than my DVDs.  I thought DVDs were supposed to be the "Ultimate Experience"!!
