Who's side are you on?
« on: July 21, 2006, 01:40:53 am »
So for those of you who read good old paper and ink comics I'm sure you've read or atleast heard of Marvel's latest scheme to get all our monies:  The Civil War.  Combining so many super heros into one universal spanning story I just had to make it my goal to buy every comic in this story.

Basically in the story an untraind group of super heros accidentally cause a bad guy named Nitro blow up a school and the near by neighborhood killing about 600 people.  Well all the beauracrats take this chance to push through a super hero registstration law, which says register with the government and work for us, be trained by us, and get payed (not sure how much) or go to jail.  Captain America, standing up for the freedom and rights of everyone, goes underground to fight this law.  Meanwhile Iron Man sides with the goverment and starts arresting everyone that wont register, because he believes this is what the people need.

So the big question is who's side are you on?  Me, I'm with Captain America because he kicks ass and I think Iron Man's full of it, plus after reading this month's issue (which I suggest you get if you like watching heros beat each other up) I really don't trust Iron Man.

Who are you guys with?

I think I'd probably side with Captain Crunch Picard America. If I were the bureaucrats and the governing bodies, however, I would not want so much animosity pointed towards me, and would just offer the superheroes tons of sinecures, monies, and insurances in exchange for working for me.

But hell, nothing in the superheroes world goes the way I'd want it to. If it did, Marvel wouldn't make money...!!

Anyways, 10 points to Marvel on the Prox Coolness Scale for their left-wing undertones.

Oh yeah I guess I should mention, for fairness, that the X-Men could be chosen as a possible third side since it seems like they're gonna either make their own side or remain in a generally neutral position.

Outside of comic existance there are two things here.

1) The ideal of being a masked hero and saving people and kicking bad guy butt.  It's the lore that we have all grown up with in comics.

2) the idea that someone could really not be identified just becuase they were a mask.  Foresenics today are a bit more advanced than the old days and it isn't beleivable that someone could go around in a mask and no one would know them.

IN comic existance,  Ironman has Spiderman on his side, and spiderman kicks ass.
Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever.

I'd for once say I'm with the Capin on this one, though I never liked him as a hero, not sure why... anyway, I can see the fear making people be like "Register who you are" But if everyone in Marvel was registered with the government, who would they fight?

Also, forensics can only say who you are if there is a record of who you are to begin with, if nobody's ever heard of you who are they going to compair you to?  Myself for instance, as far as I know My fingerprints are not on file with any government agency.  School took us to get printed when I was a kid and I weaseled my way out of it.
One day, when the zombies rise and destroy humanity; I will survive, I will live on, I will take your best stuff for myself.

I believe the govenment has hired him as a cape-killer and I'm pretty sure that Cable is his first target.  I'll let you know as soon as I pick up the Cable/Deadpool Civil War tie in.

Man, the government can controll heros, too? ....well, I go with Capitan America.  I just think it's cool that he's the only superhero that has died(as far as I know, anyway...).  It adds a realism factor and a realization that superheros are people.  I haven't read this paticular one, though.

Never fear, I spoiler-ized his post.

For future reference, and this can go for anyone else too, you can make your text look invisible by changing the text color to the background color of the posting space.  The key is to pay attention to which color background your reply will have, since it alternates between a lighter gray and darker gray.  The lighter gray is "#F0F0F0", the darker being "#E1E1E1".  Since my post will be in a lighter background next, I can use this background color and make it invisible, and then you can only see it if you drag your mouse over the text.

And an example of how to do it:

Code: [Select]
Snape kills dumbledore.
