RPing
« on: October 03, 2005, 01:08:01 pm »
ao yeah, the rp was a popular feature at the labs UNTIL THE DAMN ABILITY SYSTEM WAS IMPLEMENTED!  So I've been thinking of a new way to do these adventures in a simpler system.

Level ups go to stats, pure and simple.  Ill create the stat bases if there is enough people intrested in doing these RPs.

The powers and attacks your character has are defined by the players themselves.  So go crazy and feel free to make whatever you want, but don't go too crazy or you might end up with a...

the GM Challenge, this is when the GM feels a person is being unfair in their ability or power or general action.  The GM and player both roll a dice to determine the outcome, higher roll wins.  If the GM wins punishment is dealt out in whatever manner the GM feels fit, if the player wins they manage to use said power, ability, or action.
Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever.

That sounds fairly good. Although, I think if even other players and the GM think a player is too powerful something can be done without dice rollery. I've also seen on other forums that people have forums where people RP in posts with stories and such with no dice rollery. I'm not sure if anyone would be really good with it here, but it might be interesting to try some time and see how it goes.

Hell, I loved the RPs even with that damn ability system. It's this new weight thing that drove me away. TOO COMPLICATED (RP)?

I think another good thing to do is to have someone actually check all the character sheets and see if they're reasonable. Maybe we can also a little more lenient and allow some elements of teh fantastical into the RPs, like magical type stuff. I wanted to be sort of a bard type character originally, but it never seemed to pan out.

So are you guys planning to start a Fybertech RP?  I might join in on this one.  The ones at the labs just seemed a little to comlicated for me, but Gar's seem to got it down to a pretty simple layout.

I didn't realize people might want to start an RP thing here but I got no problem with it, just ask if you need anything in particular.

As for the character sheets, perhaps peer review might be a way to go about approving sheets, if there's no single person in charge for such a thing.

I'd gladly oversee sheets and stuff.  And a little more on what I had in mind...I'm going to place it on world filled with almost everything.  Sortof like in "final fantasy" where some areas have super high-tech equipment, others are knights and mages, and anything in between the weird and strange.  This means new areas can appear and such if needed for more adventures.  And that weight system Prof made, yeah forget it, in final fantasy you can carry like 99 swords and armor of 100 different types so we are going with that.  I could use suggestions for more places, or even just create a place from which your character comes from.

Current lands in progress:

Delta City - Slightly futuristic city, no flying cars sorry.
Kingdom of Risus - A land of mages and knights, complete with castle
Everard Island - ???
Thrystal Forest - ???
Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever.

You'll need like a trade city, maybe we could have some sort of currency, so if you wanted to buy better stuff you could. Prices would be set by the person wanting to buy and sell stuff, but it would be up for discussion if that a reasonable price by the GM and othre players. This way you could in theory upgrade in different ways not just in XP, although this could lead to a lot of god mode type shit. We'll just have to try and stop taht.

Eh, I kinda liked it with the ability list, I just wish it weren't restricted to only those.

Also, we should only have like, 2 or 3 abilities to start, and get one more each level. This way, we don't have to deal with anybody who has like, 20 skills at level 1.

Well thats, why we're monitoring sheets, so we can stop that before they RP. I don't think anybody ever really checked anybody's before.

I have kind of a weird system I was thinking of using in an RP offline sometime. Basically, I give the players some cards with the names of stats written on them and say "Okay, now write down what stats your guy's got." Then, when they invariably write like all 20's, I take those cards, set them on fire, and say "Your guys all died on the plane, make up new ones."

Eventually, I think they'd all either figure out what I'm looking for, or give up. Either way I win.

take a deep breath
give them the finger
are you worried that your thoughts are not quite clear

So, Gar, what shall we name our RP system?

Fype-Hunt?
Fypg?
AN RPG ON FYBERTECH.

ideas on limiting abilites - make it so number of abilities allowed is equal to PP level, so right now it would be five.  We may need a lower starting PP count then.

Name -ARE PEE GEE, or not...

I think PP should be used as Ability Points. Every time you use an ability, you use an certain amount of PP, which is decided the GM. It makes things a little more freeform, meaning people can use their full creativity in an RP.
