Title: Website Suggestions
Post by: FyberOptic on September 30, 2005, 02:26:55 pm
So anyone who's looked at the front page by now will have noticed a facelift.  That's not all that'll get done though.  Prox suggested I might could fit some news in there if I shift the gear over, so I might just do that . . !  There will also be a section for comics since there are some without a home now.

In any case, if you've got an idear or suggestion about anything on the site, this is the place to stick it.  Even if it doesn't get used exactly as you suggested, it might lead to other ideas, so it's all worth hearing.

Maybe, just maybe, you could change the rounded rectangle thumbnails in the middle of the green gear. I was thinking maybe a circle shape with a border similar to the green gear would fit a little better, but then there's the problem of where to put the text.

The only reason I used the square ones is just because I already had them, to tell you the truth.  I'm gonna fidget with the size of the gear anyhow, so I might be able to make the images appear circular in the center of the gear.

Here are a couple of design ideas I quickly made for you guys to get the idea of what I was thinking of. I don't know how good they are and how easy they'd be to make, but that's not up to me, is it..!?!+

Belive it or not, our orriginal idea was for a spinning cog. Unfortunately without diving into flash there really isn't a good reliable way to make things spin. You can make move in a circle, but they keep their orientation.

I still think mabey the newspost should be on the left. My mouse is always over there for most sites anyway, so even if I'm right handed, its more ergonomic to have it on the left. This is just me, of course.

The internet is the revenege of left handed people, I swar~

I dunno Boris, I like the right-handed-ness it is a challenge to all things internety. It is a bold statement.  The main page does seem a bit empty though... Perhaps put the icons down the left side of the cog as well as on top, not two of each, but spread them out more.  Just an idea.

This isnt exactly a website thing but maybe since we have been this loyal to this website, maybe there should be in a comic with everyones pic with sprites doing eandom crap.

If anyone else thinks that thats a good idea, I'd happily whip up some sort of animation where they do stuff for 5 minutes and appear to have done absolutely nothing.

The reason those heads are in the comic section is because they're in a comic in the comic section. Samus is in Boris' Metroid Chronicles, Gordon is in Gordon, Vito is in Hindisght, Fyber is in Fyber assist, and Boris is going to be in a comic that He, Fyber, and I have been discussing that will sort of star all three of us, but wno knows when it'll ever get made.

Title: Re: Website Suggestions
Post by: MDude on April 03, 2006, 06:38:13 pm
I think that Fybertech should have some kind of long-term project that anyone can contribute to.  Maybe some kind of comic, divided into chapters or segments or something. The cast and plot for each segment would be decided, and then we would work out the details of each panel. Maybe something like a combination of Comic Jam and forum RPs, where the GM would select people to make panels for certain scenes. Also, I was thinking about making some adventures for DOZ, but I'm realy not sure where to start with that (or even how to get it to work), and I realy don't have much time to work on it right now because of homework for buisness college. I'll try to gat something started myself, but I wanted to let you know what I'm planning to do.

I think it's high time to put a limit on the number of news posts that can appear at once on the front page. Not like it's really a bad thing to have 30 posts displayed all at once, but still.

Title: Re: Website Suggestions

In the links section, Sprites Inc changes their url, and the link to Opera still says version 8 instead of 9.
Title: Re: Website Suggestions
Post by: FyberOptic on November 13, 2006, 02:42:24 pm
I just noticed the Opera 8 thing a few days ago myself, but didn't realize Sprites Inc had changed, so I'll monkey with those things.

Also I don't know exactly what you mean about the signature limit, Altzan.  You mean more image space, or text space, or what?
Title: Re: Website Suggestions
Post by: Altzan on November 13, 2006, 03:18:27 pm
I mean the text limit. The code for displaying an image is long and I need more text to do it.

Title: Re: Website Suggestions

I updated those link buttons, and also increased the sig character limit, but I hope that's just to accommodate a larger url and not a whole bunch of junks to clutter up the pages with.  I've seen some people on other forums with practically a Myspace page worth of crap crammed in there.

How about I make a bunch of suggestoins for things I think would be nice but don't really have to happen, ever? ALLRIGHT LET'S DO IT!

I'd like Fytunes to show total playtime length next to number of veiws, and, for 4get, an option that makes clicking on an image take me straight to it's veiw page, instead of making it pop up, a way of marking images NSFW (with special tags, maybe?) such that they won't show up if you're not somehow approved (I don't really mind, I just thought you might want to consider that now that you're linking to it form the front page.)

I'd like Fytunes to show total playtime length next to number of veiws

That'd require reading the MP3 data to find the song length, which is something I wanted to be able to do eventually anyway to read ID3 tags, but I'd have to figure out how all that is stored in the files first.

Adding in an option to make images open to the view page is certainly doable, I just didn't realize anyone preferred that method over the default, since the view page always felt a bit sloppy to me.  As for marking NSFW, I'd like to actually have real tags for the content (which would allow a NSFW tag), and a separate description.  The current "tags" are more of a description, which usually doesn't do a good job of letting you search for an image, since you can put anything for it.  Actual tags would be single words reflective of the content.  But that's a bit more involved than the simple description-like method now so it'd take some wark and possibly/probably slow down the software to process tags for everything.

The chat uses Java, so installing that might make that work.

As for IRC, I don't know what to tell you.  If Ubuntu doesn't come with a chat client automatically then you'll have to look in the software installer thinger and try to find one.  Look for something like XChat maybe.  The IRC server would just be fybertech.com, standard ports (like 6667).
