Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning (http://www-fi3.starwreck.com/). This is an actual movie you can download, loosely based around Trek. You can watch the trailer on their site to get an idear. It's in another language with English subtitles, mind you. I haven't gotten around to watching it yet, but I downloaded it this morning, and after seeing the trailer and jumping through some of the scenes of the movie, the space battle parts seem top-notch; almost show quality. The Sand Game (http://chir.ag/stuff/sand/) has been what's keeping me occupied from time to time. I'm not sure if there's any purpose to it at all, aside from just messing around.
SOME HINTS:
- If water touches plant, the plant will grow.
- If fire touches oil, it ignites
- If fire touches plant, it'll ignite
- Fire touching Cera burns slowly
- Turn off that stupid namekuji thing
I have no idea what properties the sand and salt have at the moment!
EDIT: Apparently water makes the namekuji grow, and salt makes it shrink.
-
It's acctually pretty cool, this game locked me up all night, AND I'M STILL PLAYING IT.
*a couple of hours later edit*: I finally grew tired ^^;;
-
Sand absorbs spouts, and I think salt might affect sand somehow. I filled the whole area with cera, then caught the oil on fire.
Edit: One problem I've had with it is that you can't make a water tower, because nothing can flow up.
Edit2: Here's a picture of how it is so far. It reminds of tectonic shifting.
-
Ahh, it does absorb the spouts, doesn't it. So at least sand does something. Salt surely does too, it's prolly just a matter of finding out what.
But yeah I noticed that about the water thing too. Frowners.
-
I made something cool yesterday. But didn't take a screenshot.
-
I made some kind of enormous fountain-thing, along with an oil well with the obligatory self-destruct fuse.
And then something bad happened.

lol, Elmo asks kids "Who wants to die?" (http://www.local6.com/news/5784303/detail.html) in a book to teach them to potty. Watch the video link towards the top to hear it.
What they don't tell in this story is that apparently a guy bought a bunch of the books and reprogrammed'em, then returned'em to the store. I'm not quite sure why they'd end up back on the shelves, since I thought returned stuff had to go back to the company, but who knows. That's awl I know.
-
You know, at GameStop, our policy if someone returned a game, new or used, complaining it didn't work was if the disc looked okay, reseal it and re-sell it. That's what I was told to do.
-
I think that policies bull shit. I tried to trade a game for another at Software etc. and they wouldn't take it becuase it had two little scratches on the back of it. Yet they had no problem selling me a game that had scratches covering the entire bottem of the disc. I tried taking it back and they wouldn't even offer store credit so I was stuck with it even after telling me I had six days to return it if I found something wrong with it.
-
I'm pretty sure nobody here is really surprised, since it's common knowledge that Gamestop sucks.
-
b-but he was talking about Software etcetera.
IN OTHER NEWS, here's some game-type thing (http://samorost2.net/samorost1/).
-
I thought they bought out Software Etc. They replaced ours in the mall, at least.
Also that was a fun little game.
-
I thought so to but we still have one at the mall, though it's been a year since Iv'e been to the mall so who knows.

Yes yes, George Bush flipped someone off, everyone's seen the picture one million times, everyone knows he's stupid. Since that's like the 3rd or 4th time you've attached it, don't do it again.
-
Wait, this pic is real and not photoshopped? When did this happen?
-
I think it was supposed to have happened while he was waiting to make some kind of tv appearance, long long ago. He's also been known to have a potty mouth.
-
While he does have his faults I still say it's better then having Kerry in office.I'm a republican and i'm admitting the leader of our nation isn't perfect. It doesn't mean I don't dislike the man. If there were more candidates I probobly would have voted either party. People blame 9/11 on Bush, but Clinton had many opportunities to capture Osama and chose to do nothing. Also, Stem cell research didn't sit quite will with me. The very thought of it made me cringe.
I found this earlier: http://www.supersentai.com/database/1990_fiveman/index.html
-
Democrat... Republican... it doesn't matter, the whole system is fucked anyway, no president has been perfect, and the ones we hate aren't as bad as we make them out to be. I only vote so I feel i have a right to bitch, and I only bitch because voting means jack shit in the electoral college. If we returned to One man One vote then voting could mean something again (Look back at Hayes who wins by 1 vote)

"Half-Life" on an iPod (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1867155040270429847). Even though it's not really Half-Life, it shows that there's possibly a Half-Life mod for Wolfenstein or Doom, since the latter two actually do run on the iPod
-
Holy shit, that's awesome. I'd totally do that if I had a spare iPod with a video screen. BUT I DON'T.
-
I wonder what other games there are that play on an iPod
-
I think you have to have iPodLinux installed to do it. Them wacky Linux guys manage to port it to everything, so I'm sure a lot of games for Linux would run on the iPod as a result. I've seen simpler ones like Tetris and Asteroids, at least.
-
Wowow,if somone actually beats half life on the i-pod then i would congratulate them.....i would also go to their house and slap them acroos the face.

Remember the fancy Optimus Keyboard (http://www.artlebedev.com/portfolio/optimus/) that's already been pushed back by months and was due out in February? Now it's not due till the end of 2006. I'm still convinced it's all a trick . . !
You can, however, buy the Optimus Mini (http://www.artlebedev.com/portfolio/optimus-mini/) three key thingamabob. Rather useless if you ask me, and it's $100. Imagine how much the full keyboard will cost if a thing with just three buttons is a hundred bucks.
Also, here's some room illusions (http://www.compfused.com/directlink/1188/), which I'd like to see in person.

-
There's a whole fleet of computer animators at my school that deal with alot of that water stuff. And actually, the reason it doesn't seem like real water moves that much is that the computer generated stuff lacks the bubbles and such that sort of dampens how much the water looks like it's moving.

Silkroad (http://www.silkroadonline.net/), another Korean game. It's an MMO, fairly similar to WoW, and about as close as you're gonna get for free. The servers are a bit packed, though. From what I played, it aint a bad game.

The transformer car is pretty cool.
And on a rather amusing note, there wasn't anything in that Vista video that wasn't them trying to copy something already in effect in Mac OSX. I always love it when Windows has to scramble to cover their ass to catch up with Mac. Even the discussion of everything needing to be a specific format is like when OSX first came out, and all the developers had to have the rounded windows to match the OSX interface.
-
And yet I'll probably still be using the generic Windows 2000 appearance, much as I do in XP still, since themes only hog mammories and such.

Jesus fucking christ, I'll never get ice at a fast food restaurant ever again.
-
I seldom do anyway, but now after reading that I will never again. It kind of makes you wonder how clean is the soda?
-
I think the reason behind that is that no one wants a bunch of cleaning fluids in their ice. That stuff can be kind of toxic. I think they should do a similar test, but also including ice from people homes, and those giant bags if ice you get from bins in front of grocercy store.
-
I have asked for no ice in my drinks for years, but it was more of an "Ice takes up space that could be more productively filled with soda" sort of thing.... my crusade for no ice will continue ten fold now.

lol it's always cool when unexpected things happen, like with that whole epidemic before. It shows how versatile the game can be, while at the same time, evidences the inherent problem of leaving it up to the players to handle the unlocking of things which affect more than just themselves.

A rather.. crude version of the actual Last Starfighter game (http://www.roguesynapse.com/games/last_starfighter.php). I say crude because it seems to be poorly programmed, and it took me forever just to figure out how to play it, then I came to find it messed up my desktop icons. -o-;; But, it does have the sound effects and appearance, even if it is nearly impossible to play.
To get started, wait till it gets past all the initial "tests", and then hit 5 to insert coin, and alt or space to get started. The rest of the controls are in the help, or you can get into the diagnostics with 0 on startup, but that's a whole nother example of the sloppy programmery . . !

Info on the next Bond movie (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060310/film_nm/bond_dc_1). Apparently it'll lack gadgets, Moneypenny, and Q, but with good reason, since it tells the backstory.
I was surprised to see "Technology was beginning to overwhelm the story and the characters" being admitted, which is my gripe with the last few movies. I'm actually kind of looking forward to this next one now.
-
Bite Fight (http://s2.bitefight.org/c.php?uid=38223)
Good site. You guys should check it out.
-
I have to admit I'm a little worried about Bond if they're diverting so much from the modern norm, but like Fyber I think it'll be a breath of fresh air. I think I'll enjoy it, i just hope it doesn't ruin the franchise.
-
I think they've already tarnished it a little at least, if you ask me. He used to just be that quiet franchise where everyone knew his name, yet that's about all the public thought of him until a new movie popped around. These days they try to stick his name on everything, and EA shits out Bond game after horrible Bond game just to make money, while the more recent films have been overhyped considering they've generally just been a bunch of special effects with somewhat mediocre plots. I mean they captured the style of bond, and were exciting enough and all, but kind of lost the mood, for a lack of better way to explain it.
Anyway, since they changed out actors, I just think they shoulda taken a few years break again, like they did after Timothy Dalton. It needed some time to regain its charm.
-
I always fet that Goldeneye was the best of the new bond films, but Moonraker and Dr. No were my faves.
-
Doctor No was amazing. Never really got into Moonraker, but my favorite has to be Diamonds are Forever. Fucking classic, man. Second in line was prolly A View to Kill, one of them 80's ones.
-
I've seen Goldeneye about a hundred times by now, it's still the best one Brosnan ever did.
Also, here's Metal Slug in Flash (http://www.games4work.com/games/play-1758-New_Metal_Slug-Flash_Game.html).

Wait, virtualisation? You mean like in the cartoon?
http://www.pixcodelics.com/v2.13/home.php
It lets you make characters out of ASCII characters.
-
The host I use, Linode (http://www.linode.com), uses a form of virtualization. The site basically runs on a virtual computer I have full access to. It doesn't even have to run website software; some people use'em to host game servers and that sorta stuff. It's handier than normal web hosting since you can do what you want, but you pay more as a result. But it lets me have my own IRC server or whatever else I wanna run.
Linode is UML (http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net/)-based, and will eventually switch to Xen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xen) which should make the whole site run faster, but who knows when that'll ever happen.

lol, I never noticed how many I made in a row. If it's in the same day I usually edit the post, but if it's a day or so apart I just make a new post so it'll show up as new.
-
Haw, that's a cool story Fyber.
-
I wonder what the kid was thinking, really. Did he just get up one day and decide he wants to make his own nuclear reactor? Did he take into consideration what he'd do with the toxic materials that'd result?
-
Maybe he's trying to make the core of something much, much worse.... the core of his own personal nuclear warhead. Or just free electricity
-
Or a nuclear powered robot cabable of taking over the world!
-
Sarah Connor would know how to deal with him.

She's dead in the third movie you know.

Individual threads show up as new, but I don't think the main forum page shows any newness, and I know personally if I don't see that icon showing new messages, I prolly aint gonna go into the section to notice any new topics.

No one is gona buy that unless they don't already have a protable sorce for Dvds.
-
I think it's a neat concept. Kinda like back when they'd put an NES in televisions back in the day.
-
Depending on the price I may just get one. No ones made a decent gba emulator for the PSP yet, and the UMD's are still 30 bucks a pop. I'm not going to spend that kind of money when DVD's are much cheaper.
-
Sony continuously tries to push new formats and generally they fail, so I wouldn't waste my money on those UMD movies. They've already lost their shelf space at Wal-marts.
Anyone thinking BETAMAX? That was Sony too, you know. Their upcoming blu-ray "dvd replacement" format, competing with HD-DVD, is likely to end up the same.

Bush + Imposter (http://www.break.com/index/bushimposter52.html). I meant to post this the other day but clearly forgot.
-
Wow, Bush did something I like... I guess it was bound to happen after 6 years.
-
It's his latest ploy to get his approval ratings up a few points.
-
I think what would improve his ratings would be to stop putting our tax money into medical care for illegal aliens. Why should an illegal not have to pay thirty thousand dollars for an operation when a U.S. citizen does? I'm sorry but I just think there's something wrong with that.
-
It's more a matter of emergency medical care than anything else, since getting normal health insurance from the government in this country via legit methods is nearly impossible anymore. They have to treat the person if they're hurt, but once they leave the hospital, they have no way of collecting payment.
The other biggest medical drain is delivering their babies, which then become legal US citizens and can then suck on our medicaid.

Use your webcam like a Wii remote (http://psyark.jp/?entry=20051208003209). Since it's in Japanese, just point your webcam at the Flash thing, and move it around (giving it permission to use your cam first of course). You should see a crosshair start to move around based on your own movement.
-
I'd totally do it if I still had mine.
-
It dosn't wrk that well for me, but I have an old webcam, so maybe it's jus picking up fuzzyness.
-
Having a webcam would be neat, but I don't got one. If I had one though, I'd probably wear it down making silly home movies in front of it... :o
-
Wow, it suddenly works much better when i realise that i'm supossed to point the camera at the screen. For a while, i thought it was a motion capture thing for my face or something. It still jerked around though, but that's because the camera did that thing where it dosn't sync up with the screen and lines go across it..
-
TRIVIA TIME
The effects of pointing a webcam at the "screen" as a Wii remote are listed above. NOW...
Who can explain, to whatever extent, why this is so? Bonus points to who gets it right.
The answer: How should I know? Look it up.
-
The real answer: The crosshairs try to move in front of camera because they're realy minor celebrities trying to get mediia attention. And by that, I mean the flash program looks for three unevenly spaced red dots like on the flash program. That's why it only works when the three dots are in the veiwing area. In the Wii, it's more likely to be many smaller dots in a larger pattern. What would be cool is if it could be in an infrared pattern so you can't see it, but I don't think T.V.s can make those.

OOOPS? (http://youtube.com/watch?v=x6Xoxaf1Al0)

Yeah we'd never wanna baleet anything, just in that small chance that any of the junk we post here might be wanted again one day~!

The sad thing, Bluejay, is that once you read what scientology is based on, you might STILL think it's a joke. Prox is right, just use Wikipedia. Not only do you get to read about the evil Xenu, spaceships, and thetan levels, you'll also learn how the guy that invented it was nothing more than a dirty crook, and how the whole organization is based around profit by using deceptive and illegal means. That's scientology in a nutshell!

There's two or three of the Animusic things which are really neat. The others kind of just "happen", like with robot arms and stuff, and aren't nearly as good in my opinion. I like ones where balls are shooting up through the air and playing stuff and things of that nature.

SSBM "black hole" glitch (http://johnson.das.googlepages.com/blackholeglitch)
SMB speed run, without using B (http://youtube.com/watch?v=bCSb5ebPUOg). These things are all rigged of course, rewinding whenever they mess up (which ends up seemless in the recording), but I thought he did some really neat tricks, so it was worth a post.
Super Yoshi Brothers (http://youtube.com/watch?v=sPQjbHZvnuc), a SMB rom hack. Look at the related videos, too.

Cave Jumper (http://www.thegamespage.com/tgp5/games.php?section=mustdl&game=cavejumper). A neat little sprite-based sidescroller, though unfortunately just a demo.
Vader Sessions (http://www.akjak.com/vader-sessions/). Basically they replaced Darth Vader dialog with stuff he's done in other movies. Or if you prefer, a Youtube version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A0rwG39Jzk).

lol @ twisted view of net neutrality. POLITICS TIMMMMEEE.
What they don't mention is not only do ISPs want to be able to charge companies like Google extra (on top of their normal bandwidth fees) to carry their service to customers using these fancy fast pipes, but they want to be able to charge the end-user extra to be able to use certain services, and vary the bandwidth you're allowed to have based on which service. A tiered internet. Companies like Google already pay huge fees to deliver their content over the internet, and expecting them to pay the individual ISPs extra just to "carry" it, or carry it at as fast a speed as everything else, is a rediculous Republican-backed scam to make a bunch of money. The internet isn't and has never been in trouble of "running out of bandwidth", so the whole "jamming up the pipes" routine they keep trying to pull is dumb. One listen to senators like Ted Stevens will show you that they have no idea how the internet even works. I stand behind leaving the internet as one big fat neutral pipe, to prevent such scammery by ISPs.
So like the video said, make up your own mind on net neutrality. But perhaps it's best to read about it elsewhere than a biased flash video, or some guy named FyberOptic~!
