you know, is it just me, or could this thing be a serious piece of artillary were it shooting something a little more substantial than pumpkins?

Well, as far as serious, it could indeed be.   Locally, a guy has somthing of that sort in a non portable form aimed at an abandoned van in a field.  He charges people so much $$ to shot pumpkins at the van!  It was on the local news here, and it appeared the pumpkins could indeed do some damage.  So, more serious "ammo" would be...deadly, so to speak ;D .

"Artificial Targeting" means it really targets nothing at all.
