90 KB One-Handed Snes Controller Design Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)08:53 No.16547797
Hello /v/, i got bored so, i download Google Sketch Up(buggy with weird screen garbage) and designed this one-handed SNES controller. What does /v/ think of it. Also, do you think there are any changes that I make to it?

PS the weird rings around the A button weren't put there intentionally. Sketch Up just won't let me delete them.
>> Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)08:54 No.16547815
Not bad in theory, but it'd be very easy to press buttons/dpad without meaning to, simply by needing to grip the controller. Imagine having to hold L and hit y and b together, or any other remotely-complex task.
Still, if you're one-handed, better than nothing.

fucking worst idea ever

also i think it would be better to be used in RPGs then fast paced games such as street fighter

hear ye hear ye, all cockmongrels/mongrelsofcock/supremelordsofthedick/everyone else

this is by far the most intelligent thing posted on /v/ today. granted it wouldnt work better than a snes controller, but fux that controller has existed for a least 4 decades and nobody thought that one up.

basically if my vagina could still get moist, i'd fuck the op on account of i need a baby genius to fit nicely in a 3 baby tandem stroller with my baby jesus and baby mario.
>> Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)09:01 No.16547955
I'm hoping this is for people who only have one hand, because as an alternative to the two-handed method it's awkward at best and completely pointless at worst.
>> Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)09:02 No.16547980
pretty sweet idea for someone who is missing a hand actually. They need to play the vidya too.

Nice appearance. But looks bad, functionally. Too much like the original controller, not enough ergonomic consideration. Would probably be okay for non action games.

I'd have something more like this

BenHeck's one handed 360 controller looks kinda cool

Fun idea, but horrible shape. Like this, you can't put pressure on the D-pad without pressing any of the other buttons. Needs more gripping space like >>16548036
>> Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)09:14 No.16548244
why would you even do this? op please kill yourself.
>> Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)09:15 No.16548253
A handle, which would be gripped by the ring finger and pinky, possibly with triggers for the L and R buttons. On the top of the handle would be the D-pad, operated by the thumb. AB XY buttons would be placed on the side/end, and operated by the index and middle fingers.
>> Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)09:15 No.16548256
I can save this design; Make it just like the original controller, but make it foldable into that one.

SCIENCE.

This thing. Note the hand strap and the control stick controlled via wrist/arm/leg.

Hm... I'd like to design a one-handed handheld console. Sketchup is a pretty great app.
>> Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)09:20 No.16548363
You could use the controller by placing it on a flat surface, buttons up, and rocking the whole thing to use the D-pad.
Customisable button config is necessary.
>> Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)09:24 No.16548455
wonder how it'd be like if it was made into something akin to a brass knuckle

sure, you'd have to get it custom sized, or some kind of strap, but i think it'd nail it just right

I imagine myself holding that with my left hand, and then I think my thumb wouldn't reach the d-pad. I couldn't even hold that with my right hand.

If I had better understanding of electricals, I would modify my Wii attachment.

It wouldn't be wireless though and it probably wouldn't be able to fit the original shoulder buttons.
>> Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)10:20 No.16549539
>>16549462

Priority should be ability to use the D-Pad and all 4 buttons simultaneously. You only have 5 fingers. My idea was to position the L and R as close to the index and middle finger buttons as possible, as those are the most dexterous fingers, so you could potentially use both at once if you had to.
>> Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)10:23 No.16549597
>>16549378
it might be somewhat hard holding it without pressing any butons
>> Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)10:27 No.16549673
Make a grip... rounded grip with grooves rounded on both sides ~90 degree grooving with 45 degrees from either left or right being the center... so it's ambidextrous.
Thumb for Dpad so it needs to be on top and then add front buttons.
For buttons on the grip, the L + R go to the bottom two fingers one each... and the four buttons go 2 side by side on the pointer and index fingers.

Start and Select go up one each side of the dpad
>> Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)10:28 No.16549700
>>16549378
That isn't bad, but it's difficult to hit the four buttons and the LR at the same time.
If you put two buttons side by side for the first two fingers you can hit them all at the same time instead.
>> Anonymous 06/21/08(Sat)10:30 No.16549732
>>16549597
As long the front protrudes out and it's lightweight, something like that could be easilly held without hitting the buttons of the buttons had a tad more strength to them...
Though any game that requires rapid action tapping is going to suck on it anyhow since the thumb is not used.
